Deadline

The International Planned Parenthood Federation, East, and South East Asia and Oceania Region (IPPF ESEAOR), based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is seeking a skilled consultant or team/agency to undertake the technical editing of the report on the regional review of the comprehensive sexuality education in the Asia-Pacific and prepare research brief on the findings of the regional review.

IPPF ESEAOR has conducted a review of the status of comprehensive sexuality education in the Asia-Pacific region in 2019, in partnership with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Family Planning New South Wales (FPNSW). The objective of the review is to understand the situations of sexuality education in the region. The study includes 30 countries in the Asia Pacific. It is informed by an in-depth literature review, as well as survey responses and ‘promising practice’ case studies from country representatives including staff from each country’s Ministry of Education, UNFPA and UNESCO country offices, and IPPF Member Associations. To supplement the review with qualitative information FGDs were conducted in four (4) countries to understand experiences of sexuality education among adolescents and youth which could not be fully captured in the online youth survey. This study also attempts to identify the specific needs of youth for sexuality education.

The information from these sources has been consolidated to present a summary of sexuality education including relevant laws and policies, curriculum development and content, and teacher preparedness. The surveys also briefly explored the availability of youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services in each country.

Proposals can be submitted by an individual or a team/agency. The consultancy is open to a suitably qualified individual or corporate consultant with strong and in-depth knowledge of issues about sexuality education, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality.
