The Federation of Family Planning Associations, Malaysia (FFPAM) is one of the three main implementing agencies of the national family planning programme.

Our programmes are aimed at providing quality service delivery for selected target groups. This includes:

  • providing specialised non-family planning services to state family planning association clients to improve their sexual and reproductive health
  • providing men and women with information on their rights to informed choice regarding fertility and sexuality
  • providing selected youth groups with adequate knowledge in human sexuality and reproductive health as well as promote responsible behaviour
  • enabling selected groups of women to achieve self-determination for socio-economic well-being and reproductive and general health

The Family Life Education (FLE) programme has recently successfully established the first Youth Phone Line of its kind in Sarawak, East Malaysia.

It is run by staff and volunteers, who have been trained by qualified counsellors and social workers on techniques and basic skills of counselling on the telephone.

We also focus on marginalized groups, for example the community based development project for the Malaysian aborigine village of Kampung Tisong, in the Perak district.

These people have many problems: with the prevalence of malnutrition, even a minor illness can be fatal; illiteracy creates problems with communication, and the villagers are isolated from any health centre.

We aimed to create awareness of maternal and child health as well as parenting skills, self-determination for women and general health education.
