International news highlights in sexual and reproductive health and rights

The East & South East Asia and Oceania Region (ESEAOR) aims to enable all women, children and men, regardless of who they are or where they live to improve their health status and quality of lives including meeting their reproductive and sexual health needs and rights. Over the years ESEAOR has focused increasingly on expanding access to the poor and marginalized, and disadvantaged and vulnerable groups and on adolescents and young people.

 

 

Our 5A's Priorities

 
ESEAOR

ACCESS

  • Reduce political, legal, socio-economic, cultural and religious barriers to accessing SRH information, education and services
  • Strengthen political & legal commitment and support for SRH programs
  • Empower women and young people to exercise their choice and rights in regards to their sexual and reproductive lives
  • Increase male commitment and responsibility to SRH and Rights

ADOLESCENT

  • Strengthen commitment to and support for the sexual and reproductive health and rights and needs of adolescents and young people
  • Increase participation of young people in decision-making in governance and Program management at all levels.
  • Increase access to comprehensive, youth friendly, gender sensitive sexuality and relationship education
  • Reduce political, legal, socio-economic, cultural and religious barriers and practices which affect the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people

ABORTION

  • Promote for access to services such as pre and post abortion counseling, treatment of abortion complications and contraceptive services and post abortion care
  • Strengthen public and political commitment to the right to choose and to have access to safe abortion and promote access to safe abortion in countries where abortion is legal
  • Raise awareness among the general public, policy makers and key professional groups on the public health and social justice impact of unsafe abortion and related issues
  • Increase access to services to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with unsafe abortion

AIDS

  • Reduce political, legal, socio-economic, cultural and religious barriers that makes people vulnerable to HIV/AIDS
  • Strengthen the policy and programmatic linkages between SRH and HIV/AIDS
  • Increase access to interventions for the prevention of HIV/AIDS/STIs through integrated, gender-sensitive SRH Programs for women and men (including young people)
  • Support programs to reduce stigma and discrimination from HIV/AIDS

ADVOCACY

  • Increase the individual and collective understanding of the importance of good sexual and reproductive health/services and sexual and reproductive rights among stakeholders
  • Achieve greater support for the government and public commitment and accountability of SRH and SRR including policy and legislation
  • Increase the understanding of the linkages between the components of sexual and reproductive health especially HIV/AIDS in order to provide an integrated approach to services and programs
  • Ensure that SRH and SRR have a high priority on the development agenda resulting in an increase in resources to improve the quality of life and alleviate poverty
  • Increase the effectiveness of IPPF’s advocacy at all levels within the region and develop systematic coordination and communication mechanisms to support this
