Our Offices

Advocacy

  • We increase the individual and collective understanding of the importance of good sexual and reproductive health/services and sexual and reproductive rights among stakeholders
  • We achieve greater support for the government and public commitment and accountability of SRH and SRR including policy and legislation
  • We increase the understanding of the linkages between the components of sexual and reproductive health especially HIV/AIDS in order to provide an integrated approach to services and programs
  • We ensure that SRH and SRR have a high priority on the development agenda resulting in an increase in resources to improve the quality of life and alleviate poverty
  • We increase the effectiveness of IPPF’s advocacy at all levels within the region and develop systematic coordination and communication mechanisms to support this

Objectives

  • To strengthen recognition of SRHR, including policy and legislation which promotes, respects, protects and fulfils these rights
  • To achieve greater public support for government commitment and accountability of SRHR
  • To raise the priority on SRHR on the development agenda resulting in an increase in resources

Challenges

  • The intensified attacks and increasing strength of neo-conservative and fundamentalist groups and nation states hamper efforts to promote SRH
  • The problematic funding environment poses challenges in making explicit the links of SRH with poverty
  • Other priorities, including some health issues, have pushed sexual and reproductive health and rights off to one side of the international development agenda
  • Fragmentation of global SRH advocacy efforts and a lack of overall systematic coordination
  • Poor monitoring and evaluation of advocacy work
