The 3 Member Associations (MAs), Federation of Reproductive Health Associations, Malaysia (FRHAM); Family Planning Organisation of the Philippines (FPOP) and Vietnam Family Planning Associations (VINAFPA) started their SALIN + Youth Initiatives with an Orientation and Sensitization workshop in their countries. In Malaysia, the orientation workshop was held in October and service providers and youth volunteers from 13 states participated in this two day workshop. At the end of this workshop, the service providers were more receptive towards young clients SRH needs and committed to provide SRH and contraceptives services to young people, especially among marginalized youth. The workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam was held in November 2009, was participated by 11 province service providers and youth volunteers. Both these workshops were facilitated by Ms Jaya, the Regional Programme Officer for Adolescents. Similar echo trainings were also held at state and province levels to sensitive the volunteer boards and staff on the need to provide SRH services for young people without any biasness.
Philippines implemented various Capacity Building trainings on young people’s SRHR, Youth Friendly Services (YFS) Self Assessment workshops and Development of YFS action plans. These trainings allowed service providers, MA staff, counselors and selected young people to examine their self, build on their existing capacities and assess their clinical services to carefully plan strategies to better serve young people. Training on HIV and AIDS Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) and Providers Initiated Counseling and Testing (PICT) training were also held for service providers and relevant stake holders.
Peer educators workshops were held for young people in Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.
In February 2010, Ms Liz Paton from New Zealand Family Planning (NZFP) was recruited as Consultant Researcher to conduct a study on the implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in ESEAO region.
