Watch 'Criminalize Hate Not HIV'

HIV and AIDS

  • We reduce political, legal, socio-economic, cultural and religious barriers that makes people vulnerable to HIV/AIDS
  • We strengthen the policy and programmatic linkages between SRH and HIV/AIDS
  • We increase access to interventions for the prevention of HIV/AIDS/STIs through integrated, gender-sensitive SRH Programs for women and men (including young people)
  • We support programs to reduce stigma and discrimination from HIV/AIDS

Objectives

  • To reduce social, religious, cultural, economic, legal and political barriers that make people vulnerable to HIV/AIDS
  • To increase access to interventions for the prevention of HIV/AIDS/STIs through integrated, gender-sensitive SRH programs
  • To increase access to care, support and treatment for people infected, and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS
  • To strengthen the programmatic and policy linkages between SRH and HIV/AIDS

Challenges

  • Social, cultural, economic and biological factors make young women particularly vulnerable to HIV infection
  • Poor integration of HIV/AIDS and FP/SRH at different levels
  • Poor quality of life and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS challenging their fundamental rights
  • Weak partnerships between governments, NGOs, Community Based organizations (CBOs), etc in the area of HIV/AIDS
  • In some countries there is still denial and complacency about the extent of the problem not only by the general population but also by the political leaders
  • Insufficient resources, human and financial, to address HIV/AIDS, and weak health systems in many countries
  • Vicious cycle of HIV/AIDS and poverty
