Kiribati Family Health Association (KFHA), with funding from the Island Council of Tabitenuea South, conducted an outreach activity to the island from January 8-15, 2008. The Island consists of 6 villages with 45 households in each village. The KFHA team consisting of the Executive Director and Nurse Volunteer spent a day at each village and managed to obtain / provide services as follows:
Pap Smear - 130
Circumcision - 45
Norplant Removal - 1
Pregnancy Test - 4
The team also had health talks and discussions with the villages. Their visit was well received by the community who appreciated the services provided and the information on Reproductive Health, especially for parents who indicated that they were now empowered to open up discussions on Reproductive Health with their children. KFHA had this opportunity as a result of an earlier Advocacy and Public Relations Activity funded by the Taiwan Embassy. This outreach activity will bring more such activities to other outer islands as the trip and outcome was publicized through the Radio to all.
